Families in Howe and across Grayson County who are struggling heading into the holidays can now apply for Christmas help through the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program.

Registration covers Grayson, Cooke and Fannin counties, KXII reported. Children 15 and younger and adults 60 and older are eligible.

How to register

There are two ways to sign up:

  • In person at the Salvation Army, 5700 Texoma Parkway in Sherman, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 6-8. That is the second and final block of walk-in days after the first round earlier this week.
  • Online through Oct. 31.

Applicants need to bring or provide proof of address, proof of income, and documentation showing the children listed live in the household.

What donors can do

The local Salvation Army hopes to serve about 1,150 children this season, roughly the same number as last year. Lt. Donna Shea told KXII that donors should not hold back because they cannot cover a full list.

"If it's just a piece of clothing or is it some shoes, a jacket, or if you can just do everything on the wish list, do it, do what you can," she said, adding that the goal is for every child who signs up to receive something special.
