Drivers heading north out of Howe on U.S. 75 will start seeing construction barricades next week. The Texas Department of Transportation says work on the stretch between FM 902 and FM 1417 is scheduled to begin Monday, Oct. 5, weather permitting, with crews setting the project's limit barricades.
RPM xConstruction, LLC holds the contract, valued at more than $155.5 million, for the 5.76-mile segment, which TxDOT calls Segment 2 of the corridor rebuild in Grayson County.
What will be built
The four-lane highway will be widened to six divided lanes. Plans call for three new bridge structures, including U-turn bridges at FM 1417 and a braided ramp just north of FM 1417. Crews will also rebuild the main-lane bridges over Choctaw Creek and the BNSF railroad crossing.
TxDOT says the work will be done in phases. Its weekly road report for the Sherman area says two main lanes will stay open in each direction during daytime hours, with occasional additional lane closures at night and closures on the frontage roads. A reduced 65 mph speed limit will be set on the main lanes through the work zone.
Years, not months
Grayson County Precinct 1 Commissioner Josh Marr told KXII when the start date was announced that the job will likely last "at least two to three years" and will slow commutes somewhat.
