The Howe Economic Development Corporation could pick a contractor Monday night to tear down a building on East Haning Street.

The EDC board's agenda for its regular meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, at 100 E. O'Connell St. lists an item to discuss and act on sealed bids for the demolition of 119 E. Haning St. The agenda does not say how many bids came in, what they total or what the property might be used for afterward.

The demolition has been in the works since summer. Minutes from the board's July 23 meeting show members voted unanimously to post a notice seeking sealed bids for the job, on a motion by then-board member Clay Wilson seconded by Brandon Grooms.

New members and officers

Monday's meeting also opens with the swearing-in of three board members: Dustin Kolb, Janie Finney and Jared Coffey. Earlier agendas show the board took up Kolb's appointment to the seat left by Wilson's expired term on Sept. 8, after tabling it in August, and considered two-year renewals for Finney and Coffey on Sept. 14.

After the swearing-in, the board is scheduled to choose a president, vice president, treasurer and secretary. Sharla Ross presided as board president at the July and August meetings, according to the minutes.

The agenda allows residents to speak to the board for up to two minutes during citizen comments. Board members cannot discuss topics raised there that are not on the agenda. The notice is signed by City Administrator Monte Walker, who also serves as the EDC's chief operating officer.
