If there are 28-ounce bottles of lemon-lime or orange Gatorade in the pantry, check the lot code. PepsiCo is recalling 122,021 cases of the sports drink because the labels did not disclose the yellow food dyes inside, and Texas is one of 37 states where the bottles were shipped, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said.
Which bottles
The recall covers 28-ounce bottles in four varieties:
- Lemon Lime
- Lemon Lime Zero
- Orange
- Orange Zero
The drinks contain Yellow No. 5, Yellow No. 6 or both, and those colors were not listed on the label, the FDA said. ABC News reported that the affected bottles carry lot dates in April, May and June 2027. The full list of lot codes, along with the states that received the drinks, is posted in the FDA's enforcement report.
Codes are printed on the bottom or side of the bottle.
How serious it is
PepsiCo began pulling the bottles voluntarily on Sept. 25, and the agency labeled it a Class II action on Oct. 2. That is the FDA's middle tier, used when a product could cause health effects that are temporary or can be reversed with treatment, and serious harm is unlikely.
