A Dominant Visiting Performance

The Baylor Bears established control early and never relinquished it, securing a decisive 55-19 victory over the host Arizona State Sun Devils at Mountain America Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. The win improved Baylor’s record to 4-1, while Arizona State fell to 2-2 on the season.

Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway was the primary architect of the offensive explosion. He completed 25 of 40 pass attempts for 306 yards and four touchdowns. His connection with the receiving corps was efficient, finding multiple targets throughout the game. Running back Ryelan Morris provided balance on the ground, carrying the ball nine times for 84 yards and a touchdown.

First Half Scoring Breakdown

Arizona State struck first with a three-point field goal by Carson Smith from 46 yards out, making the score 3-0 in favor of the home team. However, Baylor responded immediately with a 63-yard rushing touchdown by Ryelan Morris, followed by a three-yard pass from Lagway to Tony Livingston to take a 14-3 lead.

The Bears extended their advantage in the second quarter. Lagway connected with Louis Brown IV on a 10-yard touchdown pass to push the score to 21-3 before halftime. Arizona State managed to cut into the deficit when Cutter Boley threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Omarion Miller, making it 21-13.

The half concluded with Baylor adding a field goal by Rhett Armstrong from 36 yards, ending the first half at 24-13.

Third Quarter Expansion

Baylor’s defense stifled Arizona State’s offense in the third quarter, allowing no points while the Bears’ offense continued to pile on. Lagway found Hawkins Polley for a three-yard touchdown and Jadon Porter for an eight-yard score, increasing the lead to 38-13. A three-point field goal by Carson Smith for Arizona State made it 38-16 late in the quarter.

Baylor sealed much of the game’s outcome with a 75-yard rushing touchdown by Caden Knighten, pushing the score to 45-16 and effectively ending any hope of a comeback.

Fourth Quarter Conclusion

Arizona State added a final three points via a 40-yard field goal by Carson Smith in the fourth quarter, making the score 45-19. Baylor closed out the game with two more scores. Lagway rushed for an 11-yard touchdown to make it 52-19, and Rhett Armstrong kicked a final 23-yard field goal to set the final margin at 55-19.

For Arizona State, Cutter Boley finished with 304 passing yards on 25-of-43 shooting, along with one touchdown and one interception. Kyson Brown led the Sun Devils’ rushing attack with seven carries for 34 yards, while Reed Harris was the top receiver with seven catches for 125 yards. For Baylor, Gavin Freeman led the receiving corps with seven receptions for 115 yards.
