A Third-Quarter Shift Changes Momentum
The Dallas Cowboys erased a comfortable halftime lead by the Houston Texans on Sunday, winning 34-30 at Reliant Stadium in a high-scoring affair. The game’s turning point arrived in the third quarter, when the Cowboys began a scoring surge that would ultimately flip the momentum.
After trailing 16-6 at the break, Dallas outscored Houston 21-13 in the second half to secure their second win of the season.
The visiting team started slowly, falling behind early to a seven-yard touchdown pass from C.J. Stroud to Nico Collins. However, the Cowboys kept the game close through a string of field goals by Brandon Aubrey. By the end of the first half, Houston had built a 16-6 lead, with Ka'imi Fairbairn successfully converting three field goals for the home side.
Williams Leads the Charge
The decisive shift began in the third period. Javonte Williams, who would finish with 62 rushing yards on 19 carries, scored his first of three touchdowns on an eight-yard run. Despite a response from Stroud and Collins, who connected for a 22-yard touchdown, Williams continued to punish the Houston defense.
He added a one-yard touchdown run later in the quarter, and then a two-yard score in the fourth quarter, giving the Cowboys a 27-23 lead heading into the final minutes.
