Rantanen's four-point night powers Stars to 4-0 shutout of Sabres

Mikko Rantanen recorded a goal and three assists as the Dallas Stars blanked the Buffalo Sabres 4-0 at KeyBank Center on Thursday. The visitors dominated the second period, scoring three unanswered goals to secure the victory.

Rantanen leads four-point night

The Dallas Stars beat the Buffalo Sabres 4-0 on Thursday at KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York, behind a goal and three assists from Mikko Rantanen and 26 saves from Jake Oettinger.

Rantanen had a hand in all four Dallas goals, and most of the damage came in a three-goal second period. The game drew 19,070 fans.

Early lead and second-period surge

Jason Robertson gave Dallas a 1-0 lead in the first period with a snap shot, assisted by Rantanen and Wyatt Johnston. Buffalo did not score in the opening period, or at any point after.

The Stars broke the game open in the middle period, going from 1-0 to 4-0.

Goal by goal

Sam Steel made it 2-0 with a snap shot, assisted by Thomas Harley and Rantanen. Rantanen then scored on a backhand, set up by Nils Lundkvist and Johnston, for a 3-0 lead.

Roope Hintz scored the final goal on a power-play snap shot, with assists from Johnston and Rantanen. It was the Stars' first power-play goal of the season. The third period was scoreless.

Records and stat lines

Both teams are 2-2-0 with four points. Rantanen led all players with four points, and Johnston had three assists. Robertson, Steel and Hintz each scored once. Oettinger's shutout was his second in a row, and Buffalo's Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 14 saves.
