The production utilized Dallas and smaller communities to represent the fictional town of Rio Paloma in Texas. Notable filming sites encompassed locations such as Cleburne, Grandview, Weatherford, Rio Vista, Mineral Wells, Boyd, Ferris, and Fort Worth.
Ferris, situated about 18 miles southeast of downtown Dallas, played a significant role in the production. The landscapes depicted in the series primarily feature the grasslands and mesquite of Parker, Wise, and Johnson counties, rather than the Rio Grande Valley depicted in the storyline.
The series debuted on May 15, 2026, with its first two episodes, and continued weekly for a total of nine episodes, concluding on July 3. It achieved remarkable viewership, attracting 12.9 million global viewers in its opening week, marking the largest original series launch for Paramount+. The premiere also garnered 2.9 million viewers on Paramount Network, making it the biggest cable series debut since 2023.
The cast includes Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser as Beth and Rip, alongside Finn Little, Ed Harris, Annette Bening, and others. The series was created by Chad Feehan, who also served as the showrunner.
"Dutton Ranch" has been renewed for a second season, although a release date has yet to be announced. Productions like this often choose Texas due to the state's Moving Image Industry Incentive Program, which provides financial grants to qualifying film and television projects, benefiting local businesses and crews.
