Fifth-inning swing decides it
Altuve put Houston ahead with an infield single, and Trammell followed with the game’s decisive swing as the Astros beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-2 on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Daikin Park.
The score was tied 2-2 in the fifth inning when Altuve reached on an infield single to shortstop, scoring Alvarez and moving Walker to second. Trammell then homered to right, a 388-foot drive that scored Walker and Altuve and pushed Houston’s lead to 6-2.
Astros build, then answer
Houston opened the scoring in the fourth. Diaz singled to left, bringing in Altuve and moving Trammell to second for a 1-0 lead. Smith followed with a single to left, and Trammell scored on a throwing error by left fielder Sánchez. Smith was safe at second and Diaz reached third on the error, giving the Astros a 2-0 lead.
Toronto tied it in the fifth. Straw tripled to center to score Giménez, cutting the margin to 2-1. Straw then scored on a wild pitch by Wesneski, tying the game at 2.
Houston’s four-run bottom half followed. Altuve’s infield single restored the lead, and Trammell’s three-run homer made it 6-2. The Astros added their final run in the seventh when Altuve singled to center, scoring Walker for a 7-2 lead.
