Late surge lifts Seattle

The Seattle Mariners secured a decisive victory over the Houston Astros with a nine-run explosion in the final two innings, capped by a dramatic three-hit rally in the ninth. Cole Young’s power display and strong pitching from Emerson Hancock were the primary drivers of the 10-5 win at Daikin Park on Saturday.

Houston took an early lead in the first inning when Jose Altuve reached on an infield single to shortstop, allowing Alvarez to score. The Mariners answered immediately in the second inning. Cole Young reached on an infield single to pitcher Luis Garcia, allowing Julio Rodriguez to score.

Two batters later, Adley Rutschman tripled to right field, bringing Naylor and Young home to give Seattle a 3-1 advantage.

The Mariners extended their lead later in the second frame. Donovan singled to right field, scoring Robles. Salvador Perez then homered to left field, measured at 361 feet, pushing the score to 4-2. In the fourth inning, Donovan singled to left field again, driving in Young to make it 5-2.

Pitching performances define early innings

Emerson Hancock pitched seven strong innings for Seattle, allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out eight batters. He earned the win, improving his record to 7-7. However, the bullpen struggled to maintain the lead later in the game.

Jose Ferrer pitched one inning, giving up two hits and two earned runs. Seranthony Dominguez also allowed one hit and one earned run in his single inning of work.

For Houston, Hayden Wesneski took the loss after pitching four innings. He allowed seven hits and five earned runs, striking out six batters. Bryan King pitched a clean inning with one strikeout. Ronel Blanco pitched four innings, surrendering seven hits and five earned runs while striking out three.

Ninth-inning rally seals deal

The game remained competitive until the eighth inning when Rodden doubled to center field, scoring Robles to make it 6-2. Donovan singled to center, bringing Rodden home for a 7-2 lead. In the bottom of the eighth, Paredes homered to left-center field (407 feet), driving in Pena to cut the deficit to 7-4.

The Mariners put the game away in the top of the ninth. Young launched a three-run homer to right field (358 feet), scoring Rodriguez and Naylor to extend the lead to 10-4. Walker grounded out to second base, allowing Altuve to score for a final margin of 10-5.

Final records

With the victory, the Seattle Mariners improved their record to 58-66. The Houston Astros fell to 63-61. The game was played in front of 34,664 fans at Daikin Park.
