Dominant Performance by Washington
CJ Abrams and Luis García Jr. provided the offensive firepower as the Washington Nationals defeated the Houston Astros 8-2 at Nationals Park on Wednesday. The victory improved Washington’s record to 48-46, while Houston fell to 46-49.
Scoring Summary
Washington jumped out to an early lead in the third inning. Abrams hit a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Wood to score for a 1-0 advantage. Later in the frame, Lile doubled to left field, bringing García Jr. home to extend the lead to 2-0.
The Nationals’ offense exploded in the fourth inning. García Jr. homered to right center, a 417-foot shot that drove in both Ruiz and Wood, pushing the score to 5-0.
Houston attempted a rally in the fifth inning. Matthews singled to center field, scoring Diaz to make it 5-1. However, Washington immediately responded. The Astros managed one more run in the eighth inning. Allen reached on an infield single to shortstop, and Dezenzo scored on a throwing error by Abrams, making the final score 8-2.
