Howe ISD trustees will hold a public hearing on the district's state financial accountability rating at their regular meeting next week, and they are scheduled to take up a revision to the cafeteria meal charge policy the same night.
The board meets at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, at the Howe ISD Administration Office, 105 W. Tutt St., according to the agenda posted on the district's BoardBook page.
The rating hearing
The hearing covers the district's Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas report, known as FIRST. The agenda lists a presentation of the report followed by time for questions from the public and answers. The posted agenda does not include the report itself or the rating the district received.
Trustees will also hear the superintendent's report on enrollment, construction and spending tied to the 2025 bond, and an academic growth and accountability plan. Voters approved the bond in May 2025 with 64% of the vote, the district said at the time.
Action items
The agenda asks trustees to consider:
- A revision to the allowable amounts in the cafeteria meal charge policy. The posting does not say what the current limits are or what change is proposed.
- Agriculture land leases.
- District and campus improvement plans.
- A memorandum of understanding with "McMurray University," as the agenda lists it, with no further description.
- A list of additional books for classroom libraries, which the agenda notes was posted for the required period.
- Expenditures related to the 2025 bond.
