Howe ISD Schedules TEKS Testing and Football Games for Early September

Howe ISD is conducting TEKS Ready testing on Thursday, while student athletes prepare for upcoming football and volleyball matches against regional opponents.

Howe ISD has announced its schedule of academic assessments and athletic events for the first week of September. The district will administer TEKS Ready Testing to students on Thursday, Sept. 3, beginning at 8 a.m. at Howe High School.

Athletic competitions are also scheduled for that day. The seventh and eighth grade football teams will play against Pilot Point at Howe ISD facilities at 4:30 p.m. Additionally, the ninth-grade, junior varsity, and varsity football squads will travel to Van Alstyne ISD to face Aubrey at 5 p.m.

The district will also hold a Safety and Security Meeting on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. at its administrative offices located at 200 Ponderosa Road in Howe.

On Friday, Sept. 4, cross country athletes from Van Alstyne ISD are scheduled to compete at the Pilot Point Meet near Ray Roberts Lake. The ninth-grade, junior varsity, and varsity volleyball teams will play at Farmersville at 4:30 p.m. Meanwhile, Howe High School’s volleyball team will travel to Crowley for a match at 4:30 p.m.

Looking back at earlier events, MAP Testing was held at Howe ISD on Tuesday, Sept. 1, starting at 8 a.m. The high school volleyball team played against Tioga and Whitesboro in the Howe High School gymnasium that same afternoon at 4:30 p.m.

Community updates from local social media groups include reports of high utility costs. One resident on NextDoor shared that they received a $450 energy bill from Reliance Energy for their 1,800-square-foot home in Howe, noting it was the highest charge of the summer despite efforts to reduce power usage.

Employment opportunities have also been posted locally. HOLT Industrial Rentals, now operating as Texas First Rentals, listed a job opening for a Shop Service Technician 2 position in Van Alstyne. MOOYAH Burgers, Fries & Shakes announced a Team Member role in Sherman.

Weather forecasts for the area indicate extreme heat early in the week. Tuesday is expected to reach a high of 99 degrees with a low of 76 degrees and possible afternoon thunderstorms. Wednesday will feature record-tying heat with a high of 98 degrees and a low of 75 degrees.

Temperatures are projected to drop slightly by Thursday, with a high of 90 degrees and a low of 74 degrees.
