HOWE, Texas — A license plate reader helped Howe police recover a stolen vehicle and make an arrest on June 22, returning the car to a local family the same day.

The automated system flagged a stolen vehicle traveling north on U.S. Highway 75 near McKinney. Officers intercepted the car and arrested 17-year-old Jamie Gispanski, who was taken into custody. The vehicle was returned to the Howe family that depended on it as their only means of transportation.

The Howe Police Department earned accreditation status from the Texas Police Chiefs Association Foundation earlier this year, joining Sherman and Denison as the only accredited agencies in Grayson County. As of 2026, approximately 180 of Texas's 2,800 law enforcement agencies hold the designation.

Howe also recently broke ground on a $24 million water resource recovery facility on June 18, ending more than 60 years of reliance on Sherman for wastewater treatment. The project is expected to be completed by summer 2027.
