A football player from Texas Christian University was hospitalized for three days due to a brain bleed after an alleged attack by a teammate. The incident occurred on August 13 in the locker room, where former TCU safety Jacob Fields allegedly punched wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma in the forehead and kicked him in the head.
Ezukanma was subsequently diagnosed with a brain bleed, a concussion, and a strained AC joint.
Fields has been removed from the team and surrendered to authorities on Sunday. An arrest affidavit revealed that Ezukanma believed the attack was motivated by competition during practice, as Fields felt he was underperforming. After the incident, Ezukanma received text messages from Fields expressing regret and offering to cover his hospital expenses.
Ezukanma's family reported that he is recovering and looks forward to returning to play once he receives medical clearance. His sister emphasized the need for accountability in the situation. TCU is managing the incident while focusing on the team's performance, having recently lost their first game of the season.
TCU head coach Sonny Dykes expressed pride in the players' ability to handle distractions. Meanwhile, a representative for Fields stated he has legal counsel and will allow the legal process to proceed as the investigation continues.
