Head Coach Neal Brown has expressed serious concerns about the North Texas Mean Green offensive line as the team gears up for the 2026 season. Following a recent practice, Brown remarked on the unit's lack of progress, indicating that they are not meeting expectations in terms of performance, particularly in the run game and pad level.

The offensive line was instrumental in North Texas' impressive 2025 season, contributing to a national record of 49 rushing touchdowns and earning the title of the top-scoring offense. Key contributors from last season included offensive guard Gabe Blair, a First Team All-American Conference selection and the third-highest ranked guard by Pro Football Focus.

With all five starting offensive linemen from last year having departed, the team is now tasked with rebuilding this critical unit. Brown pointed out that just two players, senior Johnny Williams IV and fifth-year Chandler Strong, have demonstrated potential during fall camp, with Strong being highlighted as the standout performer.

He stressed the importance of establishing a robust lineup, noting that the team cannot compete effectively with only two offensive linemen.

The coaching staff, including Brown, offensive line coach Matt Mattox, and run game coordinator Mike Bloesch, faces significant pressure to enhance the offensive line's performance before the season opener on September 5. Brown cautioned that if the current level of play continues, the team will encounter difficulties this season. Further details on the lineup and strategies remain forthcoming.
