TCU fell to Central Florida, 21-13, in Orlando, leaving the Horned Frogs 2-2 overall and 0-2 against Power Four opponents. The Big 12 opener for both teams included 11 TCU penalties totaling 86 yards, two fewer turnovers than UCF and 1.2 yards per rushing attempt. TCU is averaging 11.5 points per game after its first month.
The outcome changed the context for the Oct. 3 home matchup with No. 9 BYU. TCU had hoped to open 4-0 and bring ESPN's “College GameDay” to Fort Worth. Craig, a Harvard transfer who joined TCU during the offseason, is still listed above sophomore Adam Schobel. Schobel did not appear as a freshman in 2025 and has attempted one pass this season.
Craig's games against North Carolina and UCF have produced 45 completions on 72 throws, 485 yards, two interceptions and zero touchdowns. He also has 10 rushing attempts for minus-38 yards in those contests, with sacks included in college rushing totals. The report said receivers have provided limited help, while Craig has had difficulty creating plays when the pocket collapses.
Craig signed with TCU for more money than Schobel, making a change a financial and personnel matter. Craig could start against BYU, or Schobel could make his first start at Baylor on Oct. 17 after the bye week and two possible weeks with the first team.
Sonny Dykes has previously replaced injured starters Chandler Morris with Max Duggan in 2022 and Josh Hoover in 2023, with Hoover keeping the role through the 2025 regular season. Further details were not provided.
