Jared Nuness, a previous assistant men's basketball coach at Baylor University, is facing sanctions from the NCAA after he confessed to placing around 3,400 bets totaling approximately $38,000 on various professional and college sports. This situation arose from an investigation initiated by a third-party sports wagering monitoring system that identified Nuness in November 2025.

Following this, Baylor conducted an internal inquiry and reported its findings to the NCAA in December 2025, which led to a collaborative investigation. In February 2026, Nuness admitted to the NCAA that he breached its regulations by wagering on professional sports via two online sportsbooks.

He also allowed his minor son to access these betting accounts, resulting in the son making three bets on NCAA Division I men's basketball games totaling $170.

The NCAA's report indicated that none of the bets involved Baylor University or its student-athletes. Nuness accepted full accountability for his actions, and both he and the NCAA enforcement staff agreed to categorize the case as a Level II-Standard violation.

Nuness, who departed from Baylor's coaching staff in December 2025 due to personal issues, is now under a two-year show-cause order, requiring him to complete significant sports betting education and provide similar training to his colleagues. He is also subject to a 10 percent suspension from all athletically related activities, which translates to a three-game suspension, alongside a public reprimand and censure.

Baylor Athletics confirmed its cooperation with the NCAA throughout the investigation, with spokesman Brent Ingram noting that compliance education is ongoing within the athletic department, including continued collaboration with ProhiBet.
