The Dallas Cowboys have parted ways with running back Jaydon Blue, a fifth-round draft choice from the University of Texas. This decision aligns with their shift away from the "Thunder and Lightning" running back strategy. Blue, who faced challenges with maturity during his rookie season, was swiftly picked up by the Philadelphia Eagles for their practice squad.
In a corresponding move, the Cowboys have added Emari Demercado, a former player with the Arizona Cardinals, to enhance their running back options. Demercado, measuring 5 feet 11 inches and weighing 215 pounds, is recognized for his versatility, having averaged 6.5 yards per carry in Arizona. His rookie season saw him average 4.9 yards per carry, which improved to 9.3 yards per attempt in 2024.
Over his three years with the Cardinals, he gained 819 rushing yards and scored three touchdowns on 126 carries.
Currently, the Cowboys' running back lineup features Malik Davis as the second choice and Hunter Luepke in the fullback position. Israel Abanikanda has been reinstated to the practice squad, while the status of second-year running back Phil Mafah is still unclear. The Cowboys will monitor Blue's performance with the Eagles, hoping he does not fulfill his potential as a competitor.
