Malik Davis, a running back for the Dallas Cowboys, has been fined $6,735 due to an unnecessary roughness infraction during a preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals. The incident took place in the first quarter at the 12:07 mark, following a five-yard carry by Davis.
Although there was no penalty called during the game, the NFL later issued the fine as part of its routine for preseason violations.
Davis stands out as the only Cowboys player fined during the preseason. The highest fine in the league during this period was given to Tytus Howard of the Cleveland Browns, who was fined $12,537 for a similar infraction in Week 1. Currently, Davis is in the second year of a two-year, $2.1 million contract, with a base salary of $1.1 million for 2026.
This fine amounts to approximately 0.6% of his salary, with all fines collected by the NFL being donated to the Professional Athletes Foundation.
Throughout the offseason, Davis competed for the backup running back position against Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah. After the roster was finalized, Davis secured the backup role behind starting running back Javonte Williams, while Blue and Mafah were cut. Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer praised Davis's performance and work ethic, emphasizing his contributions to the team's competitiveness.
