The Dallas Cowboys have made notable changes to their roster, including the release of cornerback Josh Butler after three seasons. Butler, who joined the Cowboys in 2023 after participating in two spring football leagues, expressed both disappointment and pride regarding his departure.

In a social media post, Butler mentioned his performance with the Cowboys, noting, "My entire time with the Cowboys I've never given up a single touchdown preseason or regular season or a pass over 20 yards." He reflected on his journey back to football after a four-year break and expressed gratitude for the team.

During the preseason, Butler recorded six tackles and demonstrated his defensive capabilities in three games. Over his three years with the Cowboys, he played in six games, accumulating 26 tackles, five pass deflections, and one sack. However, an ACL injury in 2024 sidelined him for the entire 2023 season, limiting his playtime in 2025.

Despite his strong performance, Butler faced intense competition at his position, leading to his release. The Cowboys have not dismissed the possibility of him returning to their practice squad, given his reliability as a depth player. As they evaluate their roster, it remains unclear if another NFL team will sign Butler or if he will rejoin the Cowboys in a different role.

Further information about Butler's future is not yet available.
