The Houston Cougars have made a significant addition to their defense by signing Myles Rowser, a safety who previously played for the Arizona State Sun Devils. This move comes in light of new NCAA eligibility rules, which allow players from the class of 2022 who did not redshirt or sign a professional NFL contract to gain an additional season of eligibility.
Rowser did not redshirt during his freshman year and played nine games for the Campbell Camels. After attending a rookie minicamp with the Seattle Seahawks without signing a professional contract, he has had a collegiate career that includes time at Campbell in 2022, New Mexico State in 2023, and Arizona State from 2024 to 2025.
Over his career, Rowser has accumulated 295 total tackles, with 8.5 tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, and 16 passes defended. During the 2025 season at Arizona State, he played in every game, achieving a career-high 84 tackles, four tackles for loss, and a fumble recovery, which earned him a place on the All-Big 12 Third Team.
The Cougars already have a solid safety lineup with veterans Kentrell Webb and Jordan Allen, who recorded 71 and 48 tackles respectively last season, and newcomer Tulane safety Javion White, who made 50 tackles. Rowser's addition could lead to adjustments in the lineup, possibly moving one of the safeties to the nickel corner position, enhancing the Cougars' competitiveness in the Big 12.
