The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Tuesday that SMU senior Enzo Panozzo is its co-defensive player of the week. He shares the honor with Notre Dame’s Blake Kelly after SMU’s 1-0 win over NC State, SMU Athletics reported.
Panozzo, a Sarasota, Florida, native, scored the only goal during SMU’s ACC home opener and led the defense as captain. NC State managed eight shots, with two reaching the target, while SMU posted its fifth shutout of the season.
This is Panozzo’s first ACC weekly award. It marks SMU’s second conference weekly honor this season. Following the victory, the Mustangs moved to No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches poll. SMU is 7-0-1 overall and 2-0-0 in ACC play, with its next conference match scheduled for Sunday at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.
