Doug McNamee, Baylor's new athletic director, has not set a specific win total for head coach Dave Aranda to meet in order to continue beyond the 2026 season. Instead, McNamee stressed the significance of building momentum and enhancing support for the football program.
In comments reported by CBS Sports, McNamee remarked that it is not merely about numbers, but rather the overall vibe and energy surrounding the program. This clarification sheds light on the expectations for Aranda as he approaches his seventh season at Baylor.
Although no ultimatum was given, McNamee emphasized the necessity for the program to foster a competitive atmosphere within the Big 12 and adapt to changes in name, image, and likeness (NIL) opportunities.
He urged supporters to increase their commitment, whether by attending games or contributing financially to NIL initiatives and scholarships. McNamee highlighted the need for greater investment from the community, stating that engagement can range from watching games on television to providing substantial financial support.
Aranda's record at Baylor stands at 36 wins and 37 losses, following a successful 2021 season. However, the team has faced challenges since then, with a record of 22-28 and three losing seasons in the past four years, including a 5-7 finish in 2025.
