The Dallas Cowboys have signed DeSoto native Von Miller to a one-year contract valued at $5.5 million, which could rise to $7.5 million based on performance incentives. This signing is particularly significant for Miller, who is eager to play for his hometown team.

At 37 years old, Miller had a strong performance last season, achieving nine sacks in 2025. His impressive career includes two Super Bowl championships, seven All-Pro selections, and eight Pro Bowl appearances, making him a valuable addition to the Cowboys.

While analysts suggest that Miller's signing may not be the major trade anticipated to enhance the pass rush, he is expected to strengthen the team's outside linebacker (OLB) depth. The Cowboys are projected to have six OLBs on their 53-man roster, with two more on the practice squad.

Rashan Gary and Donovan Ezeiruaku are expected to start, with Miller and Malachi Lawrence as key backups. James Houston is likely to secure a spot as the fifth OLB due to his contributions last season. The final OLB position remains uncertain, with Sam Williams and Marist Liufau competing for the last spot. The anticipated OLB depth chart includes Gary, Ezeiruaku, Lawrence, Miller, Houston, and Liufau.
