Kevin Jennings, the quarterback for the SMU Mustangs, is anticipated to participate in the upcoming season opener against the Florida State Seminoles. This comes after he suffered a finger injury earlier this month when it was caught in a locker room door during fall camp.

Head coach Rhett Lashlee expressed optimism regarding Jennings' healing process, mentioning that the redshirt senior has started throwing again and is not experiencing any pain. Lashlee stated that Jennings will have a complete two weeks to prepare for the game, with the goal of him being fully ready by kickoff.

Lashlee provided an update on Jennings' status, saying, "Things are progressing well. He feels no pain, and we are integrating him back into practice this week while expecting him to be fully prepared for game one." Reports from ESPN's Pete Thamel confirmed that Jennings has resumed throwing as he moves closer to returning.

The injury was not deemed serious, and Jennings' presence is considered crucial for SMU's performance this season. Last year, he recorded impressive statistics, including 3,641 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and a completion rate of 66.1%. However, he also led the ACC with 13 interceptions, indicating an area for improvement as he readies for the new season.
