TCU Athletics has fully restored media credentials for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, concluding a conflict that arose after the newspaper reported on a locker room incident involving the football team. The university confirmed the reinstatement of access in a statement issued on September 4, highlighting that constructive discussions led to a resolution between both parties.
The dispute originated from a report by Star-Telegram reporter Steven Johnson on August 18, which detailed tensions in the locker room and alleged that coaches failed to address a situation involving safety Jacob Fields, who was later dismissed from the team. TCU officials had revoked the newspaper's credentials following the publication, citing alleged threats against sophomore receiver Dozie Ezukanma, who was involved in the incident.
The altercation, which occurred on August 13, resulted in Ezukanma claiming he was punched and kicked by Fields, leading to serious injuries. Following the incident, a TCU staff member reported it to campus police. Fields turned himself in to authorities on August 30, facing charges of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.
During the credential suspension, Johnson covered TCU's season opener from the stands in Dublin, Ireland.
