Nico Collins was not present during the portion of Houston’s Wednesday practice open to reporters, extending his absence to three consecutive sessions. The wide receiver suffered a Grade 1 hamstring strain before the Texans’ Week 2 game against Cincinnati and did not play in that contest.
Dalton Schultz, Trent Brown, Ed Ingram and Jadeveon Clowney also were not seen during the media-access portion of practice. No additional information was provided about the status of any of those players. Houston is 0-2 entering Week 3, when it is scheduled to face the Indianapolis Colts.
The Texans’ receiving production dropped without Collins against the Bengals. No Houston wide receiver recorded more than three catches or 40 yards. Schultz had 12 receptions for 140 yards, and Xavier Hutchinson, Kayshon Boutte and Jaylin Noel totaled seven catches between them.
If Collins remains out, those three receivers are expected to take on larger roles, while offensive coordinator Nick Caley prepares for another game without the team’s top wideout. His return could come in Week 4 against the Dallas Cowboys instead.
