Cole Hutson can now play for the Texas Longhorns this season after Judge Maria Cantu Hexel of Austin’s 53rd District Court issued a temporary injunction. The decision was reported by sports.yahoo.com, citing Chip Brown of Horns247.
Hutson had been declared ineligible before Texas’ Week 2 matchup with Ohio State. On Sept. 7, coach Steve Sarkisian said the offensive lineman was also involved in a separate NCAA matter that remained under consideration. The court’s action does not establish when Hutson will take the field.
The order came shortly before Texas’ SEC opener at Tennessee in Knoxville on Saturday, so his status for that game was uncertain. Sarkisian was set to speak with local media Thursday, when he might offer more information.
Texas has received consistent play from both guard spots. Oregon State transfer Dylan Sikorski won the starting left-guard job, although Western Kentucky transfer Laurence Seymore had been expected to take it during fall camp. Quarterback Arch Manning said during camp that Hutson’s return to the team surprised him and that he was glad to have him back.
Offensive guard Brandon Baker called Hutson a strong leader and locker-room presence who had performed well in camp.
