Texas Tech’s 2026-27 men’s basketball roster remains subject to eligibility decisions involving Jamichael Stillwell, Darrion Williams and Donovan Atwell. All three are still listed as active after seeking temporary injunctions, as the team held its first official practice of the season Tuesday.
Williams is back with the Red Raiders after playing at NC State in 2025-26. He had spent the previous two seasons at Texas Tech and was part of the team that reached the 2024-25 Elite Eight. Coach Grant McCasland called his return an uncommon process and said Williams ultimately asked if a scholarship could be kept open for him.
Williams is one of 31 players in a case that produced an injunction allowing a fifth season of eligibility. Atwell and Stillwell are pursuing another season through separate cases. McCasland said the program will use whichever players are cleared and believes it can manage roster changes.
He said the team was assembled around athleticism, competitiveness and experience, along with a shared desire to win and commitment to one another. Atwell made 45.8% of his 3-point attempts on a career-best 8.4 attempts per game last season and earned All-Big 12 honorable mention. Texas Tech’s season is set to begin Nov. 2 at United Supermarkets Arena.
