Bachmeier Leads Unbeaten BYU Past TCU

Bear Bachmeier’s decisive rushing efforts propelled the No. 10 BYU Cougars to a 17-10 victory over the TCU Horned Frogs on Saturday. The win keeps BYU’s season flawless, extending their record to 4-0, while the home Horned Frogs fell to 2-3. The contest was decided by Bachmeier’s two rushing touchdowns, which provided the point differential that TCU could not overcome despite a late field goal.

Second-Quarter Exchange

Both teams opened the scoring in the second quarter after a scoreless first period. BYU struck first when Bear Bachmeier ran for a nine-yard touchdown, with Matthias Dunn adding the extra point to make it 7-0. TCU responded immediately to tie the game at 7-7.

Jaden Craig found Kari Ashley downfield for a 13-yard touchdown pass, and Nate McCashland successfully kicked the extra point to level the score heading into halftime.

BYU Extends Lead

The third quarter saw BYU pull ahead with a special teams play. Matthias Dunn connected on a 49-yard field goal, giving the Cougars a 10-7 lead entering the final period. TCU failed to score during this frame, allowing BYU to maintain momentum as they headed into the fourth quarter with a three-point advantage.

Final Frame and Records

In the fourth quarter, Bear Bachmeier again found the end zone, this time on a 21-yard run. Matthias Dunn’s subsequent kick increased BYU’s lead to 17-7. TCU attempted to close the gap late in the game, with Nate McCashland kicking a 44-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 17-10.

However, time expired before the Horned Frogs could equalize. The final score was 17-10 in favor of BYU.

Statistically, TCU’s Jaden Craig completed 18 of 25 passes for 187 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Jeremy Payne led the ground game for TCU with 14 carries for 77 yards, while Kari Ashley caught six passes for 108 yards and a touchdown.

For BYU, Bachmeier completed 11 of 24 passes for 62 yards and rushed for 66 yards on 15 carries, scoring two touchdowns. Kyler Kasper caught two passes for 22 yards. The game was played in front of a crowd of 38,327 at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
