Karmelo Anthony was found guilty of murder Tuesday, June 9, in the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf at a 2025 Frisco ISD track meet, according to CBS Texas.

Metcalf was 17. CBS Texas reported that the stabbing happened April 2, 2025, at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco.

The trial focused on whether Anthony acted in self-defense. Prosecutors argued Anthony intentionally stabbed Metcalf during an altercation. Defense attorneys argued Anthony acted in self-defense.

A Collin County jury convicted Anthony of murder.

Next step in court

CBS Texas reported that the case moves to sentencing and that the punishment range for murder is five to 99 years or life in prison.

ABC News and USA Today reported the guilty verdict. Dallas Observer also reported that Anthony faces sentencing after the conviction.
