Sandell’s finish
The deciding points came off Tate Sandell’s leg, as his 47-yard field goal at the end of the game gave the Oklahoma Sooners a 27-24 victory over the Texas Longhorns on Saturday at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Oklahoma was the home team, and Texas was the visiting team.
A back-and-forth finish
Texas led 7-0 after the first quarter. Cam Coleman opened the scoring with a 41-yard pass from Arch Manning, followed by Gianni Spetic’s kick.
Oklahoma tied the game in the second quarter when Dakoda Fields returned a blocked punt 0 yards for a touchdown, with Sandell adding the kick. Texas answered with Manning’s 34-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Wingo and Spetic’s kick, then Spetic made a 23-yard field goal for a 17-7 Texas lead at halftime.
Sandell’s 53-yard field goal was the only score of the third quarter, cutting Texas’ lead to 17-10. Oklahoma then scored 17 points in the fourth quarter. Lloyd Avant’s 2-yard run, followed by Sandell’s kick, tied the game at 17. Peyton Bowen put Oklahoma ahead with a 42-yard interception return and another Sandell kick.
Texas pulled even at 24-24 when Manning connected with Jermaine Bishop Jr. for a 15-yard touchdown and Spetic made the extra point. Sandell’s 47-yard field goal followed to produce the final margin.
