Burger Drives Deciding Runs
Jake Burger delivered the decisive offensive performance for the Texas Rangers, hitting two home runs to drive in three runs in an 8-6 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays at Globe Life Field. The away team struck first in the second inning, scoring four runs to take a 4-0 lead.
However, Burger answered with a 402-foot home run to left center, cutting the deficit to 4-1. The game remained tight until the fourth inning, where Burger hit a 428-foot two-run homer to center, allowing Langford to score and narrowing the gap to 5-3. The Rays responded in the bottom of the fourth, but Burger’s power ultimately proved too much for the visitors to overcome.
Scoring Sequence
The Rangers opened the scoring in the second inning. Mesa Jr. singled to left, allowing Simpson to score and moving Mateo to third. Fortes reached on a bunt single, scoring Mateo and moving Mesa Jr. to second.
Díaz singled to center, scoring Mesa Jr. and moving Fortes to third. Aranda hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Fortes and moving Díaz to second. The Rays then scored one run off a Burger home run.
In the fourth, Caminero hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Díaz. Burger’s two-run homer brought the score to 5-3. The Rays tied the game at 5-5 when Foscue doubled to right, scoring O'Hoppe and Duran, with Seager reaching third.
The Rangers took the lead in the fifth when Díaz singled to center, scoring Burger and moving O'Hoppe to second. Duran followed with a single to right, scoring O'Hoppe and moving Díaz to second. The Rays added two more runs in the fifth to take a 7-5 lead, but the Rangers scored twice in the seventh and eighth innings to complete the comeback.
