Quantrill Dominates on the Mound

The Texas Rangers secured a 5-0 victory over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Globe Life Field in Arlington. Cal Quantrill earned the win with a strong performance, pitching seven innings while allowing four hits and striking out five batters. He did not allow a walk and did not give up any earned runs in his outing.

The Rangers closed the game with Robby Ahlstrom, Jakob Junis, and Tyler Alexander, who combined for 2.2 scoreless innings. Ahlstrom pitched two-thirds of an inning with two hits and two strikeouts, Junis threw one-third of an inning with one strikeout, and Alexander finished the game with one hit, one walk, and one strikeout over one inning.

Scoring Breakdown

The Rangers took an early lead in the first inning. A ground ball by Burger resulted in a double play, but Langford scored before the throw was completed, giving Texas a 1-0 advantage. In the second inning, Foscue extended the lead with a home run to left field that traveled 400 feet.

The Rangers added three more runs in the third inning. Nimmo grounded into a fielder's choice, allowing Langford to score. Following a walk to Foscue, Seager crossed the plate.

Finally, Freeman reached on an infield single to third base, scoring Nimmo. The Nationals challenged a call during the third inning, but the umpire upheld the original decision. Washington scored no runs in the game.

National Pitching Struggles

Washington starter Jackson Kent took the loss. He pitched 3.2 innings, allowing eight hits and five earned runs while walking three batters and striking out three. Trevor Williams pitched 3.1 innings, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out five batters without giving up an earned run. Yovanny Cruz pitched one inning, allowing one hit without issuing a walk or recording a strikeout.

Attendance and Records

The game drew a crowd of 22,126 fans. With the win, the Texas Rangers improved their record to 62-64. The Washington Nationals fell to 60-67. All players are listed exactly as they appear in the official game records.
