Eisenhower State Park on Lake Texoma has posted its ranger-led programs for November, with hikes, crafts and nature lessons on most Fridays and Saturdays through Thanksgiving weekend.
Each program is free with park admission, which the park lists at $5 for anyone 13 and older. Children 12 and under get in free, and a Texas State Parks Pass covers admission. The park says any event can be canceled because of weather and asks visitors to check with staff for the latest.
First weekend
- Friday, Nov. 6, 10 a.m.: A ranger leads a 1-mile loop to Lover's Leap, which the park describes as easy to moderate and ending at a view over the lake. Leashed pets are allowed. The group meets at the swim beach parking lot.
- Friday, Nov. 6, 2 p.m.: Leaf Lanterns, a 30-minute craft using leaves and other natural materials, at the OHV pavilion.
- Saturday, Nov. 7, 2 p.m.: The B.A.R.K. Ranger hike for people and their dogs. Dogs that finish are sworn in as park B.A.R.K. Rangers and get a certificate.
- Saturday, Nov. 7, 3:30 p.m.: Guess Hoo's for Dinner, an owl program in which participants dissect owl pellets to see what the birds have eaten. Materials are provided.
Later in the month
On Saturday, Nov. 14, a 3 p.m. knot-tying class is followed by a 6 p.m. night hike of about a mile round trip to listen for nocturnal wildlife. The park asks hikers to bring a flashlight, preferably with a red light, and to leave pets at home. Visitors arriving after 4:30 p.m. pay at the self-pay station with cash or online.
Thanksgiving week brings turkey and migration programs on Nov. 20 and 21, a self-guided scavenger hunt, and a Green Friday Hike on Nov. 27 at 10 a.m., a 1.5-mile out-and-back from Armadillo Hill Trailhead No. 1 that the park rates moderate to difficult with steep, rocky stretches.
Lights in December
The park's seventh Light Up the Park drive-through is set for 5:30 to 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, and Saturday, Dec. 12, with hot chocolate, cookies, crafts and visits with Santa at the recreation hall. Campers who want to decorate a site for the event can contact the park.
