Dak Prescott completed 26 passes for 279 yards and four touchdowns without an interception as Dallas defeated Washington 37-20 at AT&T Stadium. The Cowboys improved to 1-1 after opening the season with a 28-20 loss to the Giants. Prescott's 24-yard touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb was the 249th of his career, moving him past Tony Romo for the franchise record.
Washington held the ball for 31:29 and gained 389 yards, including 182 rushing yards, compared with Dallas' 332 total yards and 66 on the ground. Dallas converted seven of 11 third downs, avoided turnovers and forced one, when rookie linebacker Jaishawn Barham caused a fumble that Dee Winters recovered inside the Washington 20. The Cowboys scored four touchdowns and Brandon Aubrey made three field goals, including a 60-yarder.
Lamb caught eight passes for 153 yards and scored twice, while tight end Jake Ferguson had touchdown catches of 10 and 12 yards. Ferguson's second score followed the takeaway and put Dallas ahead 27-13. Lamb's second touchdown, a 24-yard reception after Washington cut the margin to 30-20, also completed Prescott's record-setting day. "That made me emotional," Prescott said of the celebration, according to The Associated Press.
Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a dislocated left elbow on the final play before halftime from the Dallas 1-yard line. Coach Dan Quinn said imaging showed no fracture. Marcus Mariota replaced him and finished with 11 completions, 111 yards and one touchdown. Dallas next faces Baltimore on Sept. 27 at 3:25 p.m. Central in Rio de Janeiro's Maracanã Stadium, where the Cowboys are the designated home team.
