Employers in North Texas looking to hire workers with disabilities will have a statewide forum close to home this month, when the Texas Workforce Commission brings its annual Texas HireAbility Employer Forum to McKinney.

The forum runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the Collin College McKinney Campus Conference Center, according to TWC. The agency describes it as a forum and luncheon for employers, business leaders, human resources staff and disability advocates focused on building accessible workplaces. Registration is through a link on TWC's Texas HireAbility page.

Scheduled presenters include Isaac Shapiro, co-CEO and president of Clean Logic, and representatives of the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center, the City of Fort Worth and CVS. The program also includes the Lex Frieden Employment Awards, given by the Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities to people and businesses recognized for hiring and supporting workers with disabilities.

A month-long campaign

The forum is part of the 11th annual Texas HireAbility campaign, run by TWC and the governor's committee. Gov. Greg Abbott proclaimed October 2026 as Disability Employment Awareness Month in Texas, and TWC says it and its partners are holding job fairs and awareness events around the state through the month.

"October is our month to honor the nearly two million Texans with disabilities in our workforce," Abbott said in the agency's announcement.

TWC Chairman Joe Esparza said more than 700,000 Texans with disabilities hold a bachelor's degree or higher, and he pointed employers to the agency's Vocational Rehabilitation Services. TWC said that program served more than 71,000 participants last year and helped more than 10,000 Texans with disabilities reach their employment goals.

Businesses where at least 10% of employees have disabilities can apply for TWC's We Hire Ability recognition, which comes with a decal for storefronts and websites.

TWC lists hiring events and webinars by region at twc.texas.gov/texashireability.
