A Two-Goal First-Period Lead
The Dallas Stars established an early advantage against the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday, October 31, at American Airlines Center. The home team took a 2-0 lead in the opening frame, setting the tone for a 3-1 victory. The first goal came in the first period when Mikko Rantanen scored his seventh of the season on a snap shot.
Wyatt Johnston and Jason Robertson provided the assists, bringing the score to 0-1 in favor of Dallas. Shortly after, Thomas Harley added his first goal of the year, also via snap shot, to extend the lead to 0-2. Arttu Hyry and Miro Heiskanen were credited with the assists on that play.
The Blue Jackets were held scoreless during the entire first period, leaving them trailing by two goals entering the second stanza.
Stalemate in the Second Frame
The second period saw no goals from either side, preserving the Dallas lead. The Blue Jackets failed to generate a goal during this stretch, maintaining their 0-2 deficit. The Stars also went without a tally in the middle frame, keeping the period score at 0-0 for both teams.
With the score unchanged at 0-2 after two periods, the contest entered the third period with the home team holding a comfortable cushion. The lack of scoring in the second period meant the momentum remained with Dallas, who had controlled the early stages of the game effectively.
Deciding Strikes in the Third
The third period brought the only goal for Columbus and the final tally for Dallas. Damon Severson broke through for the Blue Jackets with his second goal of the season, scoring on a snap shot. Zach Werenski and Kent Johnson assisted on the play, narrowing the deficit to 1-2.
