Deciding Run in Extra Innings

Christian Walker provided the decisive blow for the Houston Astros, launching a three-run home run in the top of the 10th inning to secure a 7-5 victory over the Detroit Tigers. The power surge allowed Houston to overcome a resilient Tigers squad that had tied the game earlier in the frame.

Walker’s blast to left field, measuring 394 feet, drove in Alvarez and Paredes, extending the Astros' lead to 7-3. This pivotal moment came just moments after Paredes had singled to right field to score Peña, making it 4-3. The Tigers attempted a late rally in the bottom of the 10th, with Torkelson homering to right center (379 feet) to score Greene, bringing the final score to 7-5.

Early Tigers Lead and Middle Innings

Detroit established an early advantage, taking a 2-0 lead in the second inning when McKinstry homered to right center (386 feet) and Carpenter scored. The Tigers extended their lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning when McGonigle scored on a fielding error by Astros second baseman Delgado, with Greene also reaching base safely on the play.

The Astros began chipping away at the deficit in the seventh inning. Delgado responded with a two-run home run to right field (409 feet), scoring Meyers to make it 2-3. Houston tied the game in the eighth inning when Paredes homered to left field (402 feet), erasing the Tigers' lead and setting the stage for the extra-inning drama.

Pitching Performances

Houston’s pitching staff worked to contain Detroit’s lineup. Hunter Brown started for the Astros, pitching six innings and allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out four batters. He was supported by Bryan Abreu, who threw 0.2 innings, and Steven Okert, who pitched 0.1 innings without allowing a hit.

Josh Hader earned the win (2-0) for Houston, pitching a perfect inning with three strikeouts. Enyel De Los Santos closed out the game with one inning of work, allowing two hits and one earned run. Kenley Jansen took the loss (1-4) for Detroit, surrendering three earned runs in 1.1 innings. Jack Flaherty started for the Tigers, throwing five scoreless innings with nine strikeouts, but could not hold the lead.

Final Score and Records

The game, played at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan, drew an attendance of 33,655 spectators. The victory improved Houston’s record to 42-44, while the Tigers fell to 35-49 on the season.
