Alvarez Leads Offensive Surge
Alex Alvarez provided the decisive offensive spark for the Houston Astros, delivering two home runs that accounted for six of the team's ten total runs. The performance included a first-inning grand slam that extended an early lead and another solo shot late in the game to secure the victory over the Kansas City Royals.
Alvarez's first blast came in the top of the first inning, a 368-foot home run to left field that gave Houston a 2-0 advantage. He added to the momentum later in the same frame with a 419-foot grand slam to center field, driving in Trammell, Vázquez, and Peña to make the score 9-0.
Early Inning Dominance
The Astros built their lead during a chaotic first inning where they scored nine runs. Following Alvarez's initial homer, Yordan Alvarez homered to left (370 feet) to make it 3-0. A single by Jeremy Peña to center scored Jake Meyers for a 4-0 count. The inning saw further expansion on passed balls by Royals catcher Salvador Perez, allowing one run to score, and then another on a subsequent passed ball, pushing the lead to 5-0.
After Alvarez's grand slam made it 9-0, the Royals attempted a comeback in the bottom of the first. Bobby Witt Jr. scored on a fielder's choice by Michael Massey, followed by runs from Nick Pratto and MJ Melendez on subsequent plays, making the score 9-5 by the end of the frame.
Late Innings and Pitching Changes
The Royals continued their rally in the eighth inning. Massey singled to left to score Garcia, and a walk by Bobby Witt Jr. allowed Perez to score, bringing the deficit to 9-7. Witt Jr. then reached on an infield single, scoring Massey to make it 9-8.
