Deciding Run
The Houston Astros secured a 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels in 10 innings, with the winning run crossing the plate on a defensive miscue in the extra frame. With the score tied at 4-4, Astros second baseman Jose Altuve scored when Angels catcher O’Hoppe committed a fielding error on a pop-out by teammate Meyers. Josh Hader (1-0) pitched the final inning to earn the win, while Bryan Abreu recorded his fourth save of the season.
Game Progression
The Angels took an early lead in the second inning. Adell scored on a single by Mancini, and two more runs followed when O’Hoppe doubled, driving in Mancini and Madrigal to make it 3-0. Houston responded in the third inning when Christian Walker doubled and brought Alvarez home, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
The Astros tied the game in the sixth inning. Wade Jr. doubled to right, allowing Paredes to score, and Smith followed with a double to left that brought Matthews home, making the score 3-3. The Angels regained the lead in the seventh when Neto homered to left center, a 395-foot shot that made it 4-3.
Houston tied the game again in the ninth. Walker singled to center, and Peña scored to level the contest at 4-4, sending the game into extra innings.
