Keith Dominates with Three Home Runs

Colt Keith delivered a historic offensive performance, hitting three home runs and driving in six runs to lead the Detroit Tigers to a 9-3 victory over the Houston Astros. Keith’s power display was the decisive factor in the game, providing the Tigers with significant momentum throughout the contest.

Keith’s first home run came in the third inning, a two-run shot to right center that extended the Tigers' lead. He added another two-run homer in the seventh inning, this one to right field, further widening the gap. His third home run, a solo shot to left field in the ninth inning, capped his remarkable night and sealed the win for Detroit.

Tigers Build Early Lead

Detroit established control early, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning when McGonigle scored on a hit-by-pitch. The Tigers expanded their advantage in the second inning when McGonigle homered to right field. The third inning proved pivotal for Detroit, as they added three more runs. In addition to Keith’s two-run homer, Torkelson homered to left field, making the score 5-0 before the Astros began their rally.

Astros Respond in Third Inning

Houston mounted a comeback attempt in the bottom of the third inning. Paredes hit a two-run homer to left field, bringing the score to 5-2. Altuve followed with a solo home run to left center, making it 5-3. However, the Astros could not overcome the early deficit.

Detroit added an insurance run in the fifth inning. Dingler scored on a passed ball by Astros catcher Vázquez, with Torkelson advancing to second on the same play. Although the scoring sequence for this run appears duplicated in the logs, it contributed one run to the total, making the score 6-3. The Tigers’ offense remained dormant after the third inning until Keith’s seventh-inning homer.

Pitching Performance and Final Score

The Detroit Tigers’ pitching staff held the Astros in check after the third inning. Kyle Finnegan earned the win, pitching one hitless inning with one strikeout. Tyler Holton recorded the save, pitching 1.2 innings with two strikeouts. Drew Anderson started for Detroit, pitching 2.2 innings with five strikeouts despite allowing two earned runs. Jacob Waguespack and Will Vest also contributed scoreless relief.

For Houston, Kai-Wei Teng took the loss, allowing five earned runs on six hits in 3.1 innings, though he struck out nine batters. Steven Okert, AJ Blubaugh, Jayden Murray, and Bryan Abreu pitched the remaining innings. The game was played at Daikin Park in Houston, Texas, with an attendance of 26,632.

With this result, the Houston Astros fall to 33-41, while the Detroit Tigers improve to 30-42.
