Houston responded almost immediately in the same frame. Alvarez connected on a 427-foot shot to right center, tying the game at 1-1 and keeping the contest tight as it headed into the later stages.
The Rays regained the lead in the seventh inning when Caminero hit a 374-foot home run to left field, putting Tampa Bay ahead 2-1. The offensive output continued into the eighth inning, where Fortes doubled to center field, driving in Walls to extend the Rays’ lead to 3-1. This final run proved to be the difference, as the Astros were unable to answer.
Pitching Performances
Nick Martinez started for Tampa Bay, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing three hits and one earned run while striking out three batters. He was supported by a strong relief effort. Kevin Kelly earned the win with 1.2 scoreless innings, striking out no one but maintaining the lead. Casey Legumina pitched a perfect inning for the hold, and Bryan Baker secured the save with a clean final frame, recording one strikeout.
For Houston, Spencer Arrighetti took the mound for six innings, giving up two hits and one earned run with four strikeouts. Steven Okert pitched one inning, allowing one hit and one earned run, which resulted in the loss.
