Sherman is about 9 miles north of Howe. The next phase of the US 75 expansion between FM 1417 in Sherman and FM 902 in Howe is set to start Oct. 5, weather permitting. The Texas Department of Transportation will designate the highway segment as a work zone.
The project is designed to widen the route to six lanes. Grayson County Precinct One Commissioner Josh Marr said the work could last at least two to three years, with slower commutes possible during construction. He said the route handles significant freight movement, including semitrailers, and that added lanes are expected to ease congestion.
Plans call for U-turn bridges at FM 1417, along with a braided ramp north of that junction. Marr said the work continues the larger US 75 construction program in the area. The third segment, through downtown Sherman, has been finished, while segments four and five are being built. TxDOT advises motorists to obey posted signs and lower their speed in the work zone.
