Residents have until Friday, Nov. 6, to weigh in on where the state should consider bicycle improvements on highways in the Texas Department of Transportation's Paris District.
TxDOT opened an interactive web map in October as part of its Paris District Bicycle Plan. The district office in Paris oversees state highways in nine Northeast Texas counties, including Grayson County, where it is running the current U.S. 75 widening through Howe.
What the map asks
According to TxDOT's announcement, participants can review and comment on three things:
- the "bikeway function" recommended for each state roadway, which describes the role a road would play for people on bicycles
- proposed refinements to the routes of Bicycle Tourism Trails
- which corridors in the district should be priorities
The agency says most people finish in 10 to 15 minutes. The plan is meant as a regional framework to identify gaps and rank places where bikeway improvements could help the most. It does not fund any project on its own.
