Rookie linebacker Jaishawn Barham will take over Dallas' defensive communication duties when the Cowboys meet the Washington Commanders in Week 2, sportingnews.com reported. Coach Brian Schottenheimer confirmed that Barham will use the green-dot helmet for the game.
The assignment follows a 28-point loss to the New York Giants in Week 1, during which Dallas had difficulty containing the Giants' offense. Barham was selected in the third round out of Michigan. Defensive coordinator Christian Parker made the change as Dallas prepares for Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Dallas and Washington both enter the NFC East matchup after losing to division opponents in the opening week. The Cowboys' offense will face Washington's defense, while Barham's management of the defensive calls will be another development in the game. The assignment gives the rookie responsibility for relaying the defense's communications during the matchup.
