The Dallas Cowboys have made Tyler Goodson part of their backfield plans by placing him on the practice squad after waiving Israel Abanikanda. The move followed the late-training-camp releases of 2025 draft picks Phil Mafah and Jaydon Blue.
Goodson led the Atlanta Falcons in preseason rushing with 92 yards and broke a 49-yard run for a touchdown. His previous three NFL seasons with the Indianapolis Colts produced 264 rushing yards and one touchdown on 54 attempts. He also had 19 receptions for 103 yards and one receiving touchdown.
Atlanta running back Bijan Robinson called Goodson an elite player in an interview with Blogging The Boys’ RJ Ochoa. Robinson said Goodson can cut across the field, contribute as a receiver and fill several offensive roles, adding that he wished Goodson had stayed in Atlanta. The report said Goodson’s opportunity to play appears limited, with the Cowboys retaining him as backfield roster depth.
Dallas is preparing for Week 2 against the Washington Commanders after losing its opener to the New York Giants. The Cowboys had fewer than 100 rushing yards in that game, while Javonte Williams led the team with 41 yards.
