The Dallas Cowboys have a new running back option after releasing Israel Abanikanda and signing Tyler Goodson from the Atlanta Falcons. The roster move followed a Week 1 game against the New York Giants that included a 69-yard rushing effort.

Abanikanda’s release opened a place for Goodson. Abanikanda appeared in six NFL games, all for the New York Jets in the 2023 season. Before turning professional, he ran 239 times for 1,431 yards and 20 touchdowns during Pitt’s 2022 season. He never secured a consistent spot in an NFL backfield.

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said New York’s defensive front caused early problems, with defenders getting into the running lanes. He said Dallas lost the physical battle along the line, and that Javonte Williams had trouble locating space early. Schottenheimer said the Cowboys changed their approach following the intermission. The report came from [sports.yahoo.com](https://sports.yahoo.com).
