The Dallas Cowboys reportedly signed running back Tyler Goodson on Tuesday, giving the team another option after Malik Davis suffered a hip injury that will require surgery and end his season. Emari Demercado had taken over as the No. 2 back for the game against the Giants, rushing twice for 7 yards behind Javonte Williams.
Williams had 12 of Dallas’ 18 rushing attempts, along with five catches for 35 yards and a touchdown.
Goodson, 25, spent the last three seasons with Indianapolis. He appeared in 33 games, ran 54 times for 264 yards and averaged 4.9 yards per carry. He also played 304 special teams snaps over the previous two seasons, a role Dallas will be without Davis to fill.
Green Bay signed Goodson as an undrafted free agent in 2023 but released him before he joined the Colts. Indianapolis later cut him, and he attended Atlanta’s training camp. After the Falcons released him and he cleared waivers, Atlanta added him to its practice squad before Dallas signed him.
Goodson is listed at 5 feet 9 inches and 200 pounds. During his final season at Iowa, he gained 1,151 rushing yards and scored six touchdowns, earned All-Big Ten recognition and posted a 4.42-second 40-yard dash. Israel Abanikanda had previously been elevated from the practice squad for Week 1, and the impact of Goodson’s signing on his status was unclear.
